newport ale house is the name beers such as stone ipa, ballast point, karl strauss go for 4.25, bigger more potent alcohol beers go for 6.50 a pint really ridiculous for stuff like avery salvation, i dont know who buys it the people who work and hang out here are kinda gross and uncouth, very stupid people for the most part they do have some free copies of beer publications by the door which is cool the music they play is the usual crap which you hear everywhere in san diego, sublime, some bad alternative rap and whatnot, the stuff idiots with tattoos listen to they have a happy hour 3-6 everyday which is nice a dollar off all beers so 3.25 a pint for the majority of beers they have a bottle selection which is pretty good, bombers of alesmith,the good 1,s speedway etc. for 11 i believe the food didnt look all that great and was expensive so i didnt order any, the markup on pizza is insane, big money maker,too bad they feel the need to rip off people on food and the 6.50 pints of the high gravity ales

this is no longer called newport bar and grill. my review is for the current establishment, o'bees on newport. have not been for a while about have heard complaints about warm beer lately.

good selection of local beers by port brewing, ballast point, stone, alesmith (a couple each) and irish favorites (guiness, smithwicks, harp). beer-knowledgable owners, but not staff. decent inexpensive food, walking distance (probably 4 minutes) to beach. best beer bet in ocean beach for sure. $3.50-$4.00 pints, no happy hour.

They have numerous Sierra Nevada beers on tap and a good selection of local brewed beers. Had a few different ones and all beers were fresh. People behind the bar knew their beer.

A definite must see in San Diego. All the Sierra Nevada beers and other local beers on tap. No imports besides Guinness. All beers were in great shape. I found this on my last day in SD, wishing I had found it on my first. They had a great Ballast Point IPA on the hand pump, and the Sierra Nevada Harvest ale was absolutely fantastic. Owner was very friendly and knowledgable.

I have to agree with the previous review submitted by Bis, San Diego on October 29, 1999. I visited 10 brewpubs/beerbars in San Diego last week and found the Newport to be Number 1. The selection was awesome. A great selection of Sierra Nevada (including the Brown and IPA), Humboldt Brewing, and some local San Diego brews.
